When a network map needs to show both equipment and the paths between devices, Network Notepad provides a diagram workspace built around those tasks. Add network objects from a library, arrange them on the page, and connect them with selectable link styles.
Building a device map
Open the Object Library to browse available components, then drag objects onto the diagram. Select routers, switches, servers, or other library items and position them to represent the network layout. Text can be added to label equipment or explain parts of the map.
To connect devices, choose a link style and switch to link mode, then select the objects to join. Connection points can be set at an object's center or at the point selected on its shape. The alignment controls can straighten sloping link segments into horizontal and vertical runs.
How can a diagram show changing infrastructure?
Edit an existing diagram as equipment or connections change: move and resize objects, add new links, or remove links that no longer apply. The link-break feature adds a movable join to an existing connection, which can help route a line around other diagram elements.
Object properties include an IP address, and the toolbar can show or hide IP addresses on the diagram. Multi-page diagrams are supported in the Professional, Enterprise, and Client editions; objects can also link to another diagram.
Libraries, layouts, and exports
Network Notepad includes object libraries and an online library for additional diagram objects. Custom shapes and templates provide ways to build or reuse diagram elements. CSV data can be imported, and completed diagrams can be exported as BMP or PDF files.
For arranging a page, use grid snapping, alignment controls, and drawing order options to position objects, text, and links. The workspace also includes zoom, print preview, and search for working with diagram pages.
