Need to inspect photos inside an encrypted archive without unpacking them first? FastStone MaxView opens ZIP, RAR, and 7-Zip files directly, alongside individual images, in a compact viewer with full-screen browsing and practical image tools.
Encrypted archives and comic files
Open ZIP, RAR, and 7-Zip archives in MaxView and enter a password when prompted. The viewer can display images inside encrypted archives without extracting them to a temporary folder. AES 128-bit and 256-bit encryption are supported. Archive contents appear with a folder structure and thumbnail list, so browsing a collection does not require opening each image separately.
MaxView also reads CBR, CBZ, and CB7 comic book files. Supported image formats include JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC, and WEBP, as well as camera RAW formats such as CR2, NEF, and DNG.
Full-screen viewing and image details
Menus and toolbars can hide automatically while an image is open, leaving more screen area for the picture. Full-screen mode includes several zoom options, and a customizable magnifier reveals details in a selected area. Image information includes EXIF metadata, which can show camera and capture details stored in a photo.
For a hands-off review, start a slideshow with background music and choose from its transition effects. Touch gestures such as swiping and pinching are supported, alongside keyboard shortcuts and mouse-wheel controls.
Quick image changes and file actions
MaxView includes tools to rotate, resize, crop, annotate, and print images. JPEG rotation and cropping can be lossless. Annotation tools add text, arrowed lines, or highlights, while Undo and Redo let you step back through changes. Images can also be saved as a Windows desktop background or sent to an external editor with a hotkey.
