Set the search criteria
Choose folders or storage locations, then select how AllDup should compare files. Content matching can identify duplicates with different names; name and size searches offer other ways to group files. Additional criteria include creation or modification date, file attributes, and hard links.
For media, AllDup can look for similar images and sound files, as well as video or audio files with the same or nearly the same duration. Exclusion filters let you leave particular folders or files out of a scan. Save search settings as profiles to reuse them later.
Inspect and manage the results
The results view groups the files found by a search. Preview image, text, sound, and video files there before choosing what to do with them. Selection commands can mark files according to criteria, and saved results can be reopened or exported as a text file or Excel spreadsheet.
AllDup’s file manager offers several ways to handle selected duplicates:
- Move files to the Windows Recycle Bin or to a backup folder.
- Delete files, including with secure deletion.
- Replace deleted files with shortcuts or hard links.
Reuse checks across searches
AllDup can store file checksums in a database and use them in later searches. It can also scan archive files in ZIP, RAR, and 7Z formats, so those contents can be included alongside files in ordinary folders.
