The main window lists USB devices currently connected to the computer alongside devices used in the past. USBDeview shows details such as device descriptions, connection status, vendor and product IDs, and timestamps, giving the device history a searchable, sortable table view.
What does the connection history show?
Each row represents a USB device Windows has recognized, whether it is still attached or was used earlier. The table includes the device name or description, device type, VendorID, ProductID, and the date and time it was added. Mass-storage devices can also show a serial number. These fields help identify a particular drive or peripheral when several similar devices appear in the history.
The Connected column distinguishes devices that are currently attached from stored entries for past connections. Column sorting makes it easier to group or locate entries by a particular detail. Additional driver-related fields are available in the list, including the driver INF path and INF section.
Device controls and cleanup
Select an entry to act on a device. USBDeview can disconnect a device that is currently attached, or uninstall a device entry from the system when it has been used before. Enable and disable commands are also available for device troubleshooting.
The distinction between a connected device and an old entry matters: disconnecting applies to a device in use, while uninstalling removes a previously used device record. The command-line options can target devices by identifiers such as serial number, drive letter, device class, or product ID. Export commands can save device information as CSV or tab-delimited text.
Remote device inventory
USBDeview can read USB-device information from a remote computer when the user has an administrator login on that machine. This gives an administrator a way to inspect that computer’s connected and previously used devices from the utility’s table. Device details can also be exported for use outside the program.
