Remote desktop sessions
A NoMachine session displays the remote computer’s desktop and sends your keyboard and mouse actions to it. The NX protocol is designed for interactive desktop use, including video and audio playback. NoMachine also supports high-resolution multimedia, which matters when the remote session involves media or graphics applications.
To connect directly, enter the remote computer’s IP address. NoMachine Network provides another route: add a running NoMachine computer to the service, then connect to its unique Machine ID. Network access is designed to reach computers behind firewalls or without a public IP address.

How do you connect from outside a local network?
For a direct connection over the internet, the remote computer must be reachable at its IP address, and the network must allow the connection. NoMachine Network can simplify access through firewalls: publish the computer to the service and use its Machine ID from another NoMachine device. Network access also supports two-factor authentication.
SSH and remote terminals
NoMachine can connect to remote systems through SSH, including computers running Windows, macOS, or Linux with an SSH service. Terminal access lets you work at a command line without opening a full desktop session. This provides a way to handle shell tasks alongside NoMachine’s graphical remote desktop connections.
Session security
NoMachine’s NX traffic uses OpenSSL with TLS/AES 128 encryption. SSH connections and two-factor authentication are also supported; the latter is available with NoMachine Network.
