Paint landscape materials to build a scene

Canvas centers its workflow on a sketch and a generated view. Choose a material from the palette, then paint broad shapes where it belongs: for example, mark out mountains behind a strip of water and add sky above them. Canvas interprets those labeled areas and renders them as a cohesive landscape, refreshing the result as the sketch changes.

The material palette gives rough marks meaning, so a brushstroke assigned to water produces a different result from one assigned to grass or clouds.

Change a scene with styles and layers

Style presets alter the rendered appearance while keeping the underlying sketch available for further edits. Try a different style to explore another visual treatment of the same arrangement of materials.

Layers keep parts of the sketch separate, making it easier to adjust one area without repainting the entire scene. When the image is ready for another stage of work, export it as a PNG or a layered PSD for use in a graphics editor.
