Going somewhere without internet and want videos saved on your laptop? Audials Movie, from German developer Audials AG, records video as it plays on screen and converts your own DVDs into files such as MP4.
Recording streamed video
Recording happens in real time while the video plays. The same recording workflow applies to series and live streams, and the resulting file can be saved locally for later viewing.
MP4 is an option for recordings intended for offline playback. Users can also choose an output format and a destination folder. Basic editing tools let you trim saved clips.
Copying movies from discs
A separate DVD-copying tool transfers a movie from a physical disc to the computer. Discs can be saved as MP4, H.264, WMV, AVI or 3GP files. Built-in profiles provide preset video configurations, so the disc-copy workflow includes format and profile choices as well as selecting where the file is saved.
Where do the saved files go?
The destination folder is configurable, and saved videos are ordinary files that can be kept on the computer for later playback. Streaming services generally forbid recording in their terms, and copying protected discs is illegal in many countries, so check local law and only save content you are entitled to keep.
